Why Remortgage to Pay Off Debt?
Looking for a Remortgage and Debt Consolidation Expert? You've come to the right place!
What is debt consolidation?
Consolidating debt is a fairly basic concept. This involves taking a number of debts - for example credit cards and loans and merging the outstanding balances into one single debt which offers a more cost-effective interest rate. The aim is that by consolidating your debts, your monthly repayments will be lower, therefore relieving the pressure of the outstanding debt.
Should you consider consolidating your debt?
Unfortunately, there is no answer that fits all here, as it completely depends upon your personal circumstances, particularly the level of debt and the sources of the amounts outstanding. For instance, if you have a lot of credit card debt, consolidation may well be a good idea, since credit cards are often the most expensive way to borrow money.
However, it’s critical that if consolidating your debt is the right move for you, that you speak to a professional to understand the best way in which to manage this process, otherwise you could end up with a new consolidated debt repayment, as well as needing to take out new debt in order to finance it.
Could I remortgage to consolidate debts?
The answer to this is yes, you can. Whilst it is not your only option, there are lots of reasons why consolidating debt into a new mortgage is the right thing to do. Here is where our experienced mortgage consultants can suggest the correct course of action.
A conversation with our debt consolidation specialists will enable you to be sure about the correct course of action. This advice will help you understand your options, whether a remortgage is even possible based upon your specific circumstances and if so, which products are most suitable for your requirements.
What are my remortgage options?
There are two main ways that remortgaging can improve your situation.
- Release the equity that is in your property as a lump sum and use this to repay your other debts
- Reduce your monthly mortgage payment, freeing up money to repay your other debts.
